Wanong Opalized Dendritic Agate

Wanong Opalized Dendritic Agate is a relatively new find. It was discovered in Australia about 100 miles from Carnarvon, Australia. This material features manganese dendrites, as the name gives away, as well as at times beautiful translucency, which almost looks milky. The manganese dendrites create a beautiful pattern when the stone is cut and the translucency gives the material a glow that increases the desirability.

Wanong Opalized Dendritic Agate is one of my personal favorite materials. I love materials that feature dendrites and the scenery the material can have. It is enjoyable to cut as it is fairly consistent and takes a nice polish. However, my favorite part of cutting this material is the scenery that can be seen. In one of the cabs that I cut, an owl can be seen wearing a hat and a pair of glasses. In another cab, a volcano is depicted, or others see a tree on fire. Finding the different depictions in each cabochon is my favorite part of cabbing. It is already a creative process, but finding scenery expands that so much.
