Welcome!

Welcome to Northwood Cabs! On this blog, my mom, Laura, and I will be posting about various topics, including lapidary work and techniques, jewelry making, information on different rocks, our favorite jewelers, and so much more! We are so excited to share with you all of the information and opinions we have about the beautiful lapidary arts and jewelry-making world! However, to start we would love to introduce ourselves.

My name is Molly and I run this shop with my mom, Laura. My mom and I both cut cabochons, but I have primarily been doing so while she focuses on designing beautiful social media pages, creating advertisements, getting involved in an assortment of phenomenal communities, and of course, designing this wonderful website! I first became interested when I was about five years old and my parents began to cut cabochons of their own. I got to participate in contests that they held, look at the amazing jewelry that other people created, learn so much about rocks, and even attempt to cut my own cabochon. I would get to go with them to purchase new rocks multiple times, and it grew to be a very important aspect of my life. A couple of years ago, I started to truly learn how to cut cabochons and I have been in love with it ever since. Now we have our own workshop set up where I am able to continue this passion of mine every day. I have always wanted to start an Etsy store of my own to share my work with others, and now I am so lucky to be able to do so.

This Etsy store is not only allowing me to pursue something that I have dreamed about for so long but also raising funds for my college tuition. I am currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying genetics. My college career is extremely important to me, so having the opportunity to raise extra funds to be able to continue it is something I am very grateful for, especially as an out-of-state student. Luckily, when I am on campus for the semester, I am able to continue my work and the Madison Gem and Mineral Club! I am ecstatic about the idea of being surrounded by a community that also has a passion for lapidary work, but also being able to continue one of my favorite things in the world while I am away from home.

I am looking forward to expanding this blog, website, and shop, and I am especially excited to gain inspiration from all of the outstanding jewelers that we come across!
