I moved back into my dorm this past month. I absolutely love being here at Madison…asides from the snow storms three times a week! In all seriousness, the campus is beautiful, I love my classes, I am working in a couple of mind-blowing labs, and I have made some really great friends. Plus, I am in some really awesome clubs - boxing and rocks!? Though it may be everything I have ever dreamed of, I do miss many things and people back home. I miss my rocks. I have two rocks here with me at the moment - a faced and polished piece of La Paz Chrysocolla that I will protect with my life and a very exciting material known as Aragonite, which I have yet to cut! Aside from rocks and my potentially unhealthy addiction to my beloved cabbing machine, I miss my family. I have published multiple blogs talking about what I am doing in specific and then mention my family members, but I have never truly introduced them thoroughly. My younger brother is such an amazing person, and I find myself wishing he was here in Madison with me quite often. So please allow me to introduce Charlie.
Charlie is a very unique individual. He loves Godzilla, Transformers, literature, cinema, and lots of other "nerdy" things. He is still in high school and is a ten times better student than I will ever be. He is certainly ready to take on Harvard. Aside from his academics, Charlie is an avid D&D player and just joined Drama Club featuring in Cinderella! However, these are some of the “smaller” aspects of him. The biggest aspect of Charlie, what makes him really him, is his incredible writing skills. He’s destined for greatness, really. He has now written a plethora of short stories - each and every one of them just outstanding. His imagination is fantastic. He has even had a collection of his short stories published which are available to purchase at Barnes and Noble!
This is his book:
He is now currently working on an impressive novel. Now, I won’t give any details regarding this, other than he just sent me the first part of it and so far it is OUTSTANDING. By far, he is the best author out there.
I miss the debates and intellectual conversations we have, binging Stranger Things together, and taking random pictures in the kitchen. I will have to return home very soon to bug him for a weekend.
So, if you were wondering what something was that I did while not cabbing during my time at home, spending time with Charlie is a big one. If I could drag him to Madison with me, I certainly would.
